Make Your RV Lights Look Cozier With This Simple DIY Lampshade

There are some pretty cute and well-designed RVs out there, but it's hard to deny that they all look the same inside, making them feel almost sterile. Thankfully, with just a few decorations and DIY tricks, you can make your RV stand out from the rest.

Driving an RV, whether on a vacation or as a permanent home on wheels, can be a bit stressful. There is a lot of advice available on how to use an RV properly, including following the 3-3-3 rule during road trips and where to stay for free overnight while on a trip. However, when it comes to decorating your RV, there aren't as many useful guides. Adding decor to an RV isn't like doing the same for a house. Since RVs are made to go on the road, you have to get creative to keep items in place and to stop them from breaking. Things like slide outs might be useful in providing extra space, but the fact they move means you're even further limited on where decorations can be placed.

However, that doesn't mean you can't go without decorations at all. For example, those boring recessed lights throughout your RV? If you want to spruce them up, it's actually easier than you might imagine. All you need is a few small lampshades, and a way to attach them to the ceiling. With just a few minutes of your time, and no major tools, you can have charming and personalized lights that are easier on the eyes.

How to make your RV lights cozy

It's no secret that RVs are fairly cramped and short. Plus, they're made to move, so you can use them as a place to live while taking beautiful road trips across the United States. This also means that adding lamps on tables take up some precious space and are at risk of falling with a good bump.

But the built-in recessed lights can sometimes feel like too much light, and overwhelming when you're trying to just relax with friends. However, changing the lights in the RV isn't easy, as you need ones that run off of 12V lights. That's where this lampshade hack comes in to save the day. Like the video above shows, it's simple. You just need to find lampshades (extra-small is the best size) and glue them to the area around your lights. There are plenty of different lampshade options, though some may require a little more work than others to get working.

If you don't want to glue them, there are a few other options, such as screwing the lampshades into place under the recessed light, or using thin Velcro strips. Depending on the type of lampshade you get, one of these methods may be easier to use than others. If you're careful about it, the frosted covers can go back over the bulbs. Additionally, though the lights in the video turn on via a switch, there is enough space to reach in and push the button if you want to add shades to those kinds. It's a bit more inconvenient, but still entirely doable.
