Make A DIY Toilet For Your Camping Trip With This Easy Pool Noodle Hack
We all know how hard it is to go to the bathroom in the wilderness. Unlike the luxury of bathrooms at home, in RVs, or even at some more developed campsites, there are usually no designated restrooms in the wilderness. More often than not, you have to find a spot in nature to do your business. And let's face it — nature doesn't always provide the most ideal facilities. Finding a flat, stable spot to squat can feel like trying to locate a needle in a haystack. And let's not forget about those thorny bushes and deadly plants that lurk around every corner, waiting to make your bathroom break a little more trepidatious — literally, how do Survivor contestants actually do it?!)
Regular campers have devised numerous hacks to ease the process of going to the bathroom in the wild, but this hack might take the cake. With just a pool noodle, a trash bag, and a bucket, you can elevate your bathroom experience to one that is more comfortable and upscale.
Pack a pool noodle
To start, find a bucket that is both deep and wide. The depth will ensure any bodily excrement lands far away from you. The bucket should be also be wide enough that you are able to sit or lean on it without being overly uncomfortable. Then, line the inside of the bucket with a trash bag. This will make for easy cleanup when you leave your campsite. After all, it is simply good etiquette to leave no trace. Secure the bag to the inner rim of your bucket. Duct tape works best since it is extremely adhesive. Last comes the pièce de résistance — your pool noodle. Cut a slit down the length of the pool noodle. Be careful not to slice all the way through. You're merely creating a "hook" for the pool noodle to latch onto the rim of your bucket. This will make for the seat cushion of your toilet.
With your wilderness toilet throne assembled, position it at a prudent distance from your campsite, ensuring both privacy and convenience. Your DIY toilet not only saves you the physical discomfort of a deep squat, it also saves you the time and effort required to dig a kitty hole when emergencies hit. Now, when nature calls while you're out in the wild, you'll be answering in style.
